Sally Armbrecht is an American, living in Finland for 20 years. As an immigrant living far from her home she discovered that, through her practice of Movement Medicine, she could develop a sense of belonging in her own body and heart as a way to tap into belonging in any moment.
She feels one of the gifts of MM is befriending and accepting our hearts and bodies exactly as they are in each moment- and so the dance becomes a moving meditation. She weaves this coming home to the body and heart through her teaching.
Sally was drawn to Movement Medicine, in part, because it teaches about the relationship between humans and the elements. This resonates with her since she was an Environmental Educator in the US and has a deep sense of caring for the natural world. She feels this aspect of MM is a natural fit with the Finnish people’s connection to the elemental landscape in which they live.
Sally is also a singer-songwriter and has a band and several active music projects. MM uses music as medicine and this has inspired her to begin composing music for the dance.
