To dance, you don't need to know how to dance.
You just need your body, your breath, and your openness.
This workshop is for you if:
- you've never been to a free-dance event before, but you'd like to try it
- you already dance, and now you want to try Movement Medicine too
- you've tried Movement Medicine before, and now you'd like to experience how Kata teaches
- you've been dancing for a long time, and you'd like to reinforce and practice the basics.
We'll work with the foundational practices of Movement Medicine:
- awakening the dancer
- the elements
- directing our attention in the dance
- yin and yang movement
What is Movement Medicine?
Movement Medicine is a free-dance-based movement meditation, in which the liberating power of movement is combined with a shamanic perspective and the depth of modern neuroscience's discoveries. By surrendering to movement that comes from the body, we make room for expressing our emotions, processing our experiences, and ultimately for a fuller presence in ourselves and in the world.
Our practice is rooted in very real bodily experience, not in abstract ideas and theories. Simple invitations and exercises help us arrive into ourselves, but nothing is mandatory: this is a permissive, spacious room, where it's okay to rest, okay to lie down, okay to move slowly, okay to jump, and okay to rage. Through the body we connect to our soul, our intuition, our dreams — to what is larger than us, to what holds us.
Kata Máthé is a Movement Medicine™ teacher, VITA™ somatic intimacy coach, and women's mentor with over 25 years of embodiment practice.
She works where movement, sensuality, aliveness, and pleasure meet.
