Kaya T. Sertic

Croatia
MM Professional Teacher & Facilitator
1Who and where are you?
I am passionately engaged with life: finding ways for empowerment, connection and purpose as a Movement Medicine teacher, a ceremonial leader, a dancer, body-oriented psychotherapist practicing over 15 years, a professor of philosophy, sociology and logics, consultant for systemic changes in companies, mentor and a supervisor. I am based in Croatia, but my work goes wherever I am called in this world.
2Are you a Movement Medicine teacher and/or facilitator and when did you train and graduate?
I am a Movement Medicine teacher and facilitator. I trained in 2016 and graduated in 2018
3Who do you serve with your Movement Medicine work?
I teach Movement Medicine through workshops, dance ceremonies, retreats and intensives in Europe, but also have had beautiful opportunities to offer this work in Africa, North and Central America. I am deeply honoured to be accompanying Anna Sierpowska leading an Apprenticeship Program this year, having a chance to support the space of empowerment, transformation, connection and purposeful life - working with incredible humans from different walks of life from all over the world.
4What is the meaning of this work for you?
The power of the dance is enormous. It is in our nature to move, to connect to the depths each one of us carry, to remember our nature, our strength, our purpose and our place in this world personally and in connection to all life. Supporting people to follow their path, to grow, to bring more love, beauty and creativity in this world is one of my greatest joys.
5Please tell us about two recent precious moments you’ve experienced in your professional Movement Medicine work
1 - In a recent ceremony - 'Spirit of the Forest' - held a day before Easter, we were welcoming all the spiritual practices that support life on Earth onto the dance floor. Feeling the web of life, the diversity with the same essence, mutual respect and connection was incredible to witness. 2- Seeing the depth of love on the dance floor - dancers witnessing each other, cheering one another on is always deeply moving.
6Please tell us something about when you recognised that Movement Medicine was going to play an important role in your life.
I have known I have a strong journey with Movement Medicine as soon as I came to my first Movement Medicine dance floor as a participant. I was at the beginning of my 20s and my heart was cracking open in the ways I did not understand. My whole being was overwhelmed by joy dancing my first Movement Medicine ceremony. I knew I had found something that I had been missing my whole life. After that, my Movement Medicine path started unfolding.
7The thing you find yourself saying most often to your participants
I often hear myself saying: 'Life happens. And you have a choice. You are so much greater than what you can even imagine right now. You are supported all the time - if you allow it.' And the saying that guides me personally and my work: 'Spirit knows better.'
8If you had 9 words to say anything you wanted to the world, what would it be?
(All) Life is precious. Give it all you've got.
