At the time of year when we slowly enter the season of darkness, when the day grows shorter and the night becomes longer, as every year, we will take a moment to dedicate our attention to those who walked this Earth before us.
Different traditions across the world carry the knowledge and wisdom of the power of connection with one’s ancestors. They keep that connection, nurture it, visit it, and remind us that even though the moment comes when each of us crosses over into other worlds, our bond with those who have passed remains—if we choose so—and carries immense strength for our lives.
Behind each of us stands more ancestors than we can imagine. Their paths and lives paved the way for us to be who we are today, and the torch of life they passed on to us is the thread that connects us.
At this dance ceremony, we will dance precisely for them—for the ancestors who support us, for our connection with them, for the learning, strength, wisdom, love, and beauty that exist for us; to honor the force of life in our ancestral lines and to strengthen the supportive bond we can carry even more deeply into our lives.
Dancing for the ancestors exists in every long-standing tradition in the world. It is a moment of celebration, witnessing, learning, offering our bodies to move the energy that is ready to be moved, offering our breath, love, energy, and passion for healthy relationships in our family fields—those who came before us and those who will come after us.
A moment for dance, celebration, gratitude, questions, witnessing, and prayer. For them, for us, and for the support that exists for us in every moment.
