Next Month's Hub Lesson

Each Study Hub lesson explores a gate from the Movement Medicine Mandala. The Hub's monthly lesson structure is made of weekly practices available for members every Monday. You're welcome to join the Hub anytime and no prior Movement Medicine experience is required. All live content is recorded and available for your convenience.

Welcome to this month’s journey, where we turn our attention to a simple and profound truth: movement is medicine.

We all know that movement is good for us. It's good for our bodies, our psychological health, and our overall wellbeing.

But when we talk about Movement Medicine, we're talking about another dimension of movement.

Yes, it includes the movement of the physical body. But it also includes the movement of the heart, the quality of our attention, and the way we listen. It invites the imaginal capacity of the mind: our ability to imagine, sense, perceive, and become involved in the story of our lives from a different place than we often do.

This is a very different quality of movement from simply doing physical exercise while the mind is elsewhere. It is movement with presence, with awareness, and with relationship.

One of the great allies in this is music. Music does much of the heavy lifting. The right music helps us connect heart and body, emotion and motion. It supports us to enter a state in which we can sense, imagine, and engage consciously with the energetic fabric of our lives. From there we have greater access to our agency, to love, to meaning, to beauty, to strength, and to many other qualities that the right music, at the right moment, can awaken.

This is what we'll be exploring together this month: the magic of movement as medicine when it is practised in a Movement Medicine way, bringing body, heart, imagination, and mind into relationship.

And, of course, we also value regular physical exercise, strength training, and looking after our bodies. Those practices provide an important foundation. Movement Medicine is not a replacement for them. It is an additional dimension, one that brings conscious awareness, imagination, and the intelligence of the heart into the movement of our lives.
