Let's dance in Oslo

Sagene Samfunnshus, Kristiansandsgate 2, Oslo, Norway, 0463

Free dance — no choreography, no mirrors, no performance. I play the music and guide. You follow your body. We dance our way out of the head and into the body, turning restlessness into release and chaos into power.

This is not therapy and not deep process work — that kind of work I hold in closed workshops and ceremonies, with groups I already know. Here the focus is on presence in your own body and the joy of moving freely. That makes the classes safe to come to no matter where you are in life, and a lovely way to invite your inner dancer out onto the dance floor.

Who is it for?

Everyone. No dance experience, no prior knowledge, and you don't need to have any relationship with "this kind of thing" beforehand. Movement Medicine is related to 5Rhythms and other conscious dance traditions — if you've danced those, you'll recognise yourself. If you've never done anything like it, that's just as good.

Why dance?

Dance has always belonged among people. As far back as we can see in history, humans have danced. Around fires, to drums, with each other, alone. To celebrate, to process, to unwind, to let out restlessness, to grieve, to bond and to feel the joy of being alive. It was never about being good at it. It was about being human. When we move the body through improvised dance, research shows that we change how we think, how we react, how we solve problems and how we feel about whatever life throws our way. Research also shows that when we move in sync with other people, we feel a sense of belonging.

About Kaja Koppang

I'm a certified Movement Medicine® teacher, trained at the School of Movement Medicine in England (March 2025), and I'm now in a five-year apprenticeship period. I teach classes and workshops in Oslo, Bergen and Sykkylven.

By day I work with sustainability in banking, and I'm a co-founder of the transition agency TILT Lab.

When I'm done with work, I go and dance. To clear my head. To keep from going numb from climate research. To feel, to lose it a little, to get some circulation back into my office body and let myself loose. To remember who I am. Dance has become my way home — to myself, to others, and to the sheer joy of being alive.

"I don't think dance can save the world. I just don't think we'll manage it without."

What is Movement Medicine®?

Movement Medicine® is a dance and movement practice where, without choreography, we use dance and music to quiet the mind and connect with the intelligence of the body. Some call it dance meditation. Movement Medicine is a somatic practice that can help reduce stress and anxiety, increase body awareness (your ability to listen to and understand the body's needs and signals), improve emotional self-regulation and cultivate mental health. Movement Medicine draws on modern neuroscience, indigenous wisdom, psychotherapy, dance psychology and somatic therapy. Read more here: www.schoolofmovementmedicine.com
